Take a moment for yourself

Updated: Dec 6, 2023

Those are my thoughts, not statements, those are my feelings not me, nothing is the same, nothing even thought is for sure, but like clouds on a sky constantly taking a different shapes and colours – depends on a light and wind…

The Bhagavad Gita

Chapter two: Self-realization

Krishna:

(39) You have heard the intellectual explanation of Sankhya, Arjuna; now listen to principles of yoga. By practicing these you can break through the bonds of karma.

(40) On this path effort never goes to waste, and there is no failure. Even a little effort towards spiritual awareness will protect you from the greatest fear’.

We are living in the world of action, world of consumption and possession. Since birth we are being train to be attached – to comfort of full belly, warm and cosy cot bed, to our parents, to siblings, to favourite toy, to friends, to achievements at school and rewards and many more. In such a world there is not much room for spiritual development. We are chasing, chasing, chasing all the time. Days are passing by and we are losing our inner child, our beginner joy and our naiveness, the way we have seen the world for the first time.

Later in our life stability given by parents is replaced by fear. We are afraid of loosing our loved ones, our jobs, our houses our clothes and other items. We are even afraid to lose our freedom and life. We are living in a constant fear. It does not have to be like that. We can break it and we can redirect ourselves to a different path.

When I become a mum I put myself at the end of the queue, there is no more ‘Me’, ‘I’- there are others, I do not more exist as ‘me’ as ‘I’, I am a apart of a bigger universe. I have to spin and I can’t stop for a longer period of time because this universe needs me. This is the moment when without spiritual awareness I feel fear, I can’t sleep during nights I am worrying all the time. It can be a different reason each time but always leads me to a fear that paralyses me from inside. Then no action can be done in such a frozen state. I am useless.

Arjuna worries that his body is telling him not to fight and Krishna is his spiritual guide that fills him, that give shapes to unknown.

We all have a bigger or smaller war to fight and we all need spiritual support. Without this we would become robots, this is our human side of ourselves.

To start a journey, we need to make a first step – this is not a new statement, this is so true, so basic but often we forget about it. We need to try make an effort to develop spiritual side of our souls, even smallest work will bring us comfort, will protects us.

Without spirituality we are just an empty dish.

Couple years ago, I visited Knossos. Beautiful palace – that turned into a ruin. Archaeologists were trying to reconstruct shapes of this amazing building to influence imagination of visitors. Local tourist guides have been telling the myths about Minotaur and Royals that have been living there. After listening to these stories. This Palace was more than an old pile of bricks and became a living place, invisible soul has been added to this place and become magical. For me this was a spirituality of this place.

There was one more thing that grabbed my attention – huge empty vases. I didn’t know what was that, what was the purpose of those majestic dishes. At the end of the day it is just a big piece of beautifully preserved piece of ceramic, huge bottles. When I read the description that those vases were used to keep olive oil my senses woke up. I could almost see people eating bread with oil, using it for cooking, I could smell it, tasted it.

Olive oil has so many benefits, it is so healthy, gives so much to those that are eating it. It is even known that drinking olive oil can cure us from a cold – because it works like a natural antibiotic, it is the magic of nature.

Are we such a big bottle that can be filled with anything? If we stay empty, we are just a shell but if we fill ourselves with good things, we become a better selves, deeper and with more meaning, bringing goodness to those who wants to drink from us.

Shouting to an empty dish makes a huge noise much greater than the originally made at a source. It is hard to fight fears when we are empty inside because those fears like the echo sounds bigger.

But when we fill the bottle even a little bit, then the echo is not so scary it may sound funny sometimes. Then we are protected.
